Youth Sports

The YMCA offers a wide variety opportunities for kids to participate in sports. All YMCA Youth Sports follow the philosophy that every kid deserves the chance to play and have fun! YMCA Youth Sports are designed to teach specific skills of the sport, introduce the idea of teamwork, teaching sportsmanship, demonstrating positive values, getting parents involved and for everyone to experience the joy of playing!

Coming up:

Mini Mighty Mite Basketball (Kindergarten)

Fun with basketball and friends.  Mini Mighty Mites is an introduction to the basic skills of basketball.  Children get to keep the basketball the last night of the program.  For Kindergarten boys and girls.
Mondays - October 28th – November 21st - 4 nights from 6:00-6:45pm 

Cost:  $24.00 for members/$34.00 for non-members (Includes a new basketball!!) 
Register:  At the YMCA, 900 East Church Street.  This program is limited to 56 kids.
Deadline:  Must be pre-registered by October 23rd.  This is a limited program.


Mighty Mite Basketball (1st & 2nd Grades)

Mighty Mites works on the skills needed to play basketball.  It focuses on the fundamentals such as passing, dribbling, shooting, good sportsmanship, game play, etc for 1st and 2nd grade boys and girls. 

The cost for the program is $24.00 for YMCA members and $34.00 for anyone that is not a member of the YMCA.  Financial assistance is available upon completion of required paperwork.  The money is used to help cover the costs of the program directors, building costs, equipment and printing.  The YMCA does not use tax dollars to support any of its programs.  It depends solely on program fees, membership fees, and donations to support its building costs, programs and staff.

We need volunteers to coach and teach the basic skills.  Parents, please sign up on the form below if you are willing to help coach.  We will supply the information to help and you will be contacted prior to the beginning of the program if you are needed.

This program will meet at Jefferson School on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.  Mighty Mites is 4 weeks that will run from Oct. 29th – Nov. 21st.   Mighty Mites is limited to the first 36 children signed up for each session. 

Session 1 = 6:00-6:45pm or Session 2 = 7:00-7:45pm.

Mighty Mite entries are due by October 23rd or when the program fills.

 

Girls Basketball (3rd-6th grades)

Y- Winners Basketball: The emphasis is on Good Sportsmanship, Everybody plays, Fair play, Basic Rules, Game Play and Skill Development.  Basketball will practice Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Times will be set after registration is complete.  Basketball will begin Tuesday, November 5th and ends Thursday, December 19th.  Basketball will be held at the Middle school gym.  Times of practices will be scheduled after the registration deadline.

Fee: $31.00 members/$46.00 non-members.
Register:  At the YMCA, 900 East Church Street, Pierre, SD 57501.   
Deadline:  Monday, October 28th.
