    Groundbreaking Ceremony

The Oahe Family YMCA, officially broke ground during a ceremony to celebrate the beginning of a $7.0 million expansion project that will enhance the Y’s ability to serve the community.

As a charitable organization, the Y’s cause is to strengthen community. The Oahe Family YMCA is delivering on that cause by investing in this expansion in order to best serve the health and wellness needs of  residents, as well as to meet emerging community needs. The Oahe Family YMCA expansion is part of the Y’s “Creating A Better Us” campaign chaired by Scott Jones.

"The YMCA has been an integral part of the Pierre/Ft. Pierre Community for over 50 years, providing a safe space where individuals of all ages can come together to improve their physical, mental, and social well-being. Today marks a significant milestone as we embark on a new chapter in our history, with the expansion of our facilities to better serve the evolving needs of our members and the broader community.

This building addition is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our board of directors, staff, volunteers, and community partners who have tirelessly worked towards this vision. It is also a reflection of the tremendous support we have received from our generous donors who believe in our mission of promoting youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

We are proud to highlight that this building addition has been designed with accessibility and inclusivity in mind. It will be a space where everyone, regardless of their age, race, gender, religion, ability, or socioeconomic status, can feel welcomed and empowered to participate fully in our programs and facilities."
